Corn Oil
Oils are added to the equine diet to increase energy density without adding bulk. Not only is it calorically dense, but oils are also useful in cleaning up a horse’s coat and adding the shine you desire. Studies have shown the addition of oil in a horse’s diet to increase the flexibility of hooves and to be considered “calm energy” as it won’t cause a hot-head or overly excited horse.
Corn oil offers the same benefits of many oils, but does provide an increased level of omega-6 fatty acids which aren't as desirable as omega-3 fatty acids in the equine diet. As horses already receive a high level of omega-6 fatty acids in a mainly plant based diet, further increasing these levels could promote the inflammatory process in the body.
